The use of PEMF is an accepted practice by knowledgeable practitioners. Above is a partial listing of health issues that are being treated with the use of PEMF therapy. Keep in mind that the FDA accepted the use of PEMF devices in the healing of non-union bone fractures in 1972; urinary incontinence and muscle stimulation in 1998; for the treatment of depression and anxiety in 2006; and for brain cancer and tumors in 2011. Medicare approved of PEMF therapy for Stage III & Stage IV Wound Care issues in 2004. Also certain PEMF devices are being used to fuse bones, reduce swelling and joint pain, and treat edema in soft tissue.
New studies show that with the proper field intensity and frequency, treatment with PEMF appears to be disease-modifying. The stimulation of TGFβ may be a mechanism by which PEMF favorably affects cartilage homeostasis. Through calcium-calmodulin-dependent pathways, PEMF may also increase nitric oxide activity.

Good reasons for the best technology.
PEMF technology is currently the best researched and most effective physical application. Bio Electro Magnetic Energy Regulator Therapy (PEMF) is used by NASA. Over 7,000 medical reports have shown that PEMF regenerates damaged cells. Why is that so important? Healthy cells are the key to a healthy and disease free life. Recharging your cells improves the body’s natural healing process.
For more than 60 years NASA has used PEMF to address health problems associated with space flight. The most recent use of PEMF therapy by NASA would have been this year, March 2016. Commander Scott Kelly’s height increase (bone lengthening) was a direct result of his living for one year on the international space station. PEMF will be used to help his body adjust to being back in the earth’s gravitational field.
Aren’t some EMFs bad for you?
They can be. Evidence is mounting that a new form of pollution called “electrosmog” is a very real threat because it is disruptive to cell metabolism. Manmade, unnatural EMFs come from electrical wiring and equipment, for example, power lines, communications towers, computers, TVs, cell phones – everything from the wiring in our homes to fluorescent lighting to microwave ovens, hair dryers, clock radios, electric blankets and more.
Electrosmog EMFs are not designed with the body in mind. They can be a strong inducer of stress in the body and, therefore, drain our energy. Electrosmog includes “dirty” electricity, ground currents, microwaves and radio waves. Negative EM waves are not only emitted from leaky microwave ovens, but also from cell towers, cell phones and wireless equipment.
Electrosmog is all around us and can only be partially blocked. One of the best solutions is to take measures to decrease your exposure. With therapeutic PEMFs, one can purposely add beneficial balancing frequencies to the body to decrease the burden of the negative effects of electro smog or negative EM (electromagnetic) waves.
PEMFs and Magnets: What’s the difference?
PEMFs are frequency-based, applied to either the whole body or parts of the body. PEMFs may only be needed for short periods of time, while the effects last for many hours, setting in motion cellular and whole-body changes to restore and maintain balance in metabolism and health. The body does not acclimate, or “get used to,” the healthy energy signals of therapeutic PEMFs, even if used for a long time, compared to magnets.
Stationary (or “static”), non-varying, magnetic fields from magnets have fixed strengths. They are used in mattresses, bracelets, knee wraps and the like. Most have very shallow penetration into the body, resulting in a very limited ability to affect deeper tissues, and they rarely treat all the cells of the body simultaneously. Only skilled PEMF practitioners can guide you to get the best results from PEMF devices designed to manage multiple health issues.
PEMF AND PAIN
In 2011 Dr. Oz introduced PEMF. to the American public, a revolutionary treatment for pain. He briefly explained that “Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Field Therapy is a new approach to pain management that uses electromagnets to create pulsing, moving energy”.
Why would this type of energy be so important? PEMF therapy improves cellular processes.
It is the pumping movements of our tiniest blood vessels that helps the blood cells do their job - precisely where it is most needed. Your body’s immune defenses are strengthened, physical and mental performance levels rise, diseases are better combated and medicines reach their goal more easily.
On the show, world-class pain specialist Dr. James Dillard mentioned several types of electromagnetic portable mats to Dr. Oz. These mats produce a therapeutic pulsed electromagnetic field that can surround the entire body. Family physician Dr. William Pawluk discussed several different types of PEMF devices that are FDA-approved and used to increase circulation and thus reduce swelling, relieve chronic pain, and arthritis, as well as improved range of motion.
Pain management is one of the most common applications for PEMFs. Current conventional medical approaches to pain management often leave much to be desired and involve heavy medications, procedures, surgeries, and physical therapy. Rarely will conventional doctors refer patients to alternative modalities like acupuncture, massage, or chiropractic therapy, let alone to PEMF technicians or Consultants.
Traditional Pain Management and Negative Side Effects
There are a staggering number of people in pain in this country and around the globe. In the US alone, 17% of people aged 15 or older suffer from chronic pain to such a point that it interferes with their daily life. At any given moment, 1 in 4 adults are suffering from some form of pain.
A lot of the time, pain management involves painkillers or medications to blunt the perception of pain. I call this “numbing and dumbing.” The most common medications used for pain management are anti-inflammatories, which are best used for acute problems. More than 30,000 North Americans per year die from gastric bleeding from NSAIDs like aspirin. Thousands of others have permanent kidney damage from NSAIDs.
In January 2014, the FDA finally began to address this issue, urging physicians to warn patients of the risks of long-term or high-dose acetaminophen (found in Vicodin, Percocet, and OTC medication like Tylenol) which often lead to life-threatening liver damage.
Most doctors don’t tell their patient that the problem will linger and require lifetime management. This action on the part of the doctor becomes a huge disservice to the patient – they are given false hope that this approach to treatment (whether it’s surgery or an injection) is going to truly resolve their problem. Yes, people will temporarily feel better and get on with their lives. But in 3 months, 6 months, or a year after the treatment, the problem returns, sometimes with more severity, because the underlying cause was not dealt with.
Almost everyone experiencing some level of continuous pain has tried traditional medical pain management before they considered alternative options. It’s only when these traditional options have failed (or presented horrendous side effects) that people do their own research on alternative treatments. Most people find PEMF Practitioners at the end of a long search for an answer to their pain.
PEMF Therapy for Pain
People who have failed to find relief from other modalities will often find relief using PEMFs. Animal studies show that PEMFs reduce the pain receptors in the brain. In some research, PEMFs were found to be equivalent to 10mg of morphine – all of this aside from the natural healing responses PEMFs trigger in the body. Therapeutic PEMFs can also be a substitute for those addicted to opioids.
Dr. Pawluk indicates that: “Our ability to relieve pain is variable and unpredictable. It depends on the source of the pain (which is many times different than the location of the pain), and whether the pain is acute or chronic. Pain mechanisms are complex and have local tissue and central nervous system aspects. Because of all these variables, pain management should be tailored to each person individually. The most effective pain management strategies require multiple concurrent approaches, especially for chronic pain. Rarely will a single approach solve the problem”.
Chronic pain, is often perpetuated by abnormal, small nerve networks stuck in a rut of constant inflammation. PEMF stimulation (especially with high intensities) quiets down nerves and facilitates recovery from injury and inflammation. Even patients suffering from stubborn or systemic sources of pain have found pain relief using magnetic therapies. Musculoskeletal disorders are the majority sources of pain commonly treated with PEMFs. These include arthritis, tendinitis, sprains and strains, fractures, post-op pain, osteoporosis, wounds, neuralgias, neuropathies, hip disorders, muscle spasms, spinal cord injury, trauma, burns, neuromas, heel spurs, phantom pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, tennis elbow, reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD – now known as complex regional pain syndrome) and so on.
Always keep in mind that, PEMFs work to reduce pain by changing the local tissue environment from which the pain starts. Double-blind clinical studies have shown this with chronic wound repair, acute ankle sprains, and whiplash injuries. Similar studies have been done for neck pain.
A number of studies have also been done on the use of PEMFs for back pain. Just over 15% of the entire US population complains of chronic lower back pain. In back pain studies, findings suggest that it is best to apply PEMFs on a consistent basis over an extended period-of-time, to achieve the best results – and 95% of individuals found relief. Benefit was found for patients suffering from herniated discs, spondylosis, radiculopathy (spinal nerve compression), sciatica, spinal stenosis, and arthritis. People who have tried other modalities and failed to find relief will often find relief from PEMFs. Initially, higher intensity PEMFs are often necessary in the more severe or chronic back pain situations.
In diabetic neuropathy, PEMFs used every day for at least 12 minutes improves pain, paresthesias and vibration sensation, and increased muscular strength in 85% of patients compared to prescribed medications.
Patients who suffered from headaches, and failed to respond to acupuncture and other therapies, who applied PEMFs for at least 20 minutes per day had at least a 50% reduction in the frequency or intensity of the headaches and a reduction in dependency on medication. In a somewhat surprising study, it appears that even PEMF therapy away from the head may be able to help migraines. PEMF therapy to the inner thigh, femoral artery area, can decrease headache activity. Short courses of therapy produced only about a 73% result in pain reduction versus a longer course of therapy, providing relief of about 90%. Is this you? Would you like to become free from the debilitating effects of a migraine? We can help.
Sometimes, the source of the pain can be treated directly (as with wounds, tissue damage, or fractures). Nerve signals conducting pain move from the source of the pain upstream to the brain (from a foot up through the nervous system all the way to the brain, for instance). Treatment can be applied anywhere along this path. Pain may be conducted downstream as well (a hip problem can cause knee pain, for instance.) For this reason, it’s ideal to treat the source of the pain, not necessarily where the pain is felt.
Unfortunately, the longer a person waits to start treatment with PEMFs, the more challenging it is to remove the cause, which is the primary objective of using PEMF therapies. When we use PEMF therapies we are attempting to heal the tissues that are the source of the pain signal. How long it takes to achieve this depends on the tissue and the level of damage. This is the most important aspect of use of PEMFs, that is, healing the tissue, not just “numbing and dumbing” the perception of pain.
It is also important to understand expectations in pain management. Even in the best hands, pain reduction follows a spectrum from complete elimination very rapidly to gradual reduction over extended periods of time, as the body heals itself. Regardless of an individual’ health problem, everyone partaking of PEMF therapy will experiences dramatic relief from the pain associated with their specific health issue(s).
WHICH PEMF DEVICE PROVIDES OPTIMUM RESULTS?
As mentioned earlier there are numerous PEMF devices being sold via the internet however, a major feature that should always be considered in selecting a PEMF system that has the equivalent of the Earth's biorythmn or frequencies. Swiss Bionic Solution’s (SBS) provides a Professional PEMF Systems the iMRS 2000 and the Omnium1 which is introduced to consumers. Both systems are designed to provide the same earth-based frequency along with our natural biorhythm (circadian) clock.
In 2014, after thoroughly researching numerous PEMF systems DDL’s Owner & CEO, Ms. gLou Coleman-Stevens, a Certified MediConsult Life Style Consultant and Health Technician with SBS; chose to contract with Swiss Bionic Solutions the manufacturer of iMRS 2000 and Omnium 1 PEMF systems and applicators. Ms. Coleman-Stevens is a registered Health Technician – NPI# 1336594894.
The SBS systems and applicators were chosen based on the following endorsements of NASA researchers. Their PEMF systems provide:
The Helmholtz Coil,
Square wave (saw tooth also fits this criteria),
Low Frequency: close to the frequencies of earth;
Low Intensity: 1 - 20 micro-tesla which provides a purer “more stable magnetic control” and
the properly combined frequencies and pulses, whichclosely resembles Earth-based PEMFs.

PEMF therapy is available to home bound individuals experiencing the following health issues: peripheral neuropathy, breast surgery rehabilitation, adults diagnosed with ADHD, bipolar disorder, depression, early stages of MS & MD, and individuals with advanced forms of arthritis and degenerative joint disease.
Swiss Bionic Solutions (SBS) PEMF system, the iMRS, is the only and Class I Medical Device registered with CMS and the FDA.
Keep in mind that both the Russian and American Astronauts Programs have used PEMF therapy for over sixty (60) years to address specific health problems associated with cellular, tissue and bone degeneration that develops from living in a weightless environment. And even though this non-invasive integrative therapy has been practiced throughout Europe for over thirty (30) years there are three contradictor’s or groups of individuals who should not use a full body PEMF mat – pregnant women, individuals prone to seizures and anyone with an electrical implant
(pacemaker). There is no indication that metal implants (hipsknees, ankles, shoulders) are adversely affected by EM waves.
BENEFITS OF iMRS
The iMRS (nicknamed the Mat) is the world’s best-selling, full-body PEMF device. Why? Simple. It generates consistently superior results for the following key reasons. First, the iMRS is the only full-body PEMF device whose frequencies and intensities are Earth-compatible, i.e. organic. Its frequencies comply with the Adey Biological Window, the narrow frequency range within which brains cells have been shown to survive and thrive. Its intensities comply with the Earth’s EM field and do not exceed the German safety standard, DIN 0848 (max 400 uT). Second, the iMRS is the only full-body PEMF device to feature the Square wave. NASA found that the Square wave was the only energy wave they had found that’s able to regenerate nerve tissue that was refractory to repair. Important for genetic conditions, NASA also found that the Square wave up-regulated or normalized all 150 abnormal genes they ran it against. Third, the iMRS uses perfectly circular copper coils to create the most perfect EM energy permitted by the laws of physics. There are other reasons as well, but these 3 key reasons explain why the iMRS can generally outperform even more expensive, more powerful machines.
NASA found the Squarewave to be the most effective waveform for healing and regeneration.
The iMRS-2000 and the previous generation MRS-2000 have over 20 years of research in Germany and abroad. The pain protocols being used come from proven research in clinical settings with over 200,000 patients and hundreds of doctors. The protocols are really based on results.
Another benefit of the iMRS is its pre-programed synchronization to adjust to our body’s natural biological clock just as the Earth’s EM field changes depending on the time of day (morning, noon and night).
iMRS 2000 is 100% compatible with all foods, drugs, supplements, and artificial joints/metal implants (stainless steel or titanium). However, there are three (3) contraindicators: pregnancy, implanted electronic devices, and epilepsy. There are decades of double-blind, placebo-controlled, clinical studies on the benefit of PEMF as a healthcare protocol.
The iMRS-2000 system is being used as the equipment of choice by DLC Distributors, LLC Optimum Health & Wellness Program due to its design.
The iMRS 2000 Professional unit can easily be incorporated into any practice. There are “no side effects worth mentioning”. Like any other therapy there are individuals who will experience “side effects” to medications or their initial therapy treatment. These individuals can be electro-sensitive or hypersensitive to electromagnetic fields. It’s been noted that 5% of EM users have indicated experiencing mild discomfort initially. This generally occurs when the field intensity setting is too high. Many have said that they feel a slight tingling sensation; others have indicated feeling slightly nauseous; others indicated feeling nervous or anxious. These last two feelings could also be attributed to the client being anxious or nervous about the outcome of the therapy since this would be the first time experiencing PEMF. Again, the side effects they experience are temporary and will subside as their treatment continues.
Dr. William Pawluk, one of the leading authorities on PEMF therapy indicated in one of his papers that in terms of intensity “less is better”. Following Dr. Pawluk’s advice our PEMF therapy program gradually increases wave intensity throughout the progression of one’s therapy to minimize the possibility of our client’s experiencing any side effects or discomfort.
So, how far ahead of the competition is SBS, the manufacturer of the iMRS 2000? To our knowledge, as of 10-31-2014 it is the only full-body PEMF device that can be purchased legally in Canada and the U.S. In Canada, the Mat is classified as a Class 2 medical device; this is the equivalent of the U.S. FDA Class 2 medical device classification.
